Dancing with Straw hats~

embracing the hats

the girls gently sway and dance

Oh, the eyes marvel

‘Japi’ – is a traditional Bamboo hat with colorful designs.  It is symbolic of Assamese Culture, one of the most beautiful states of India, known for its tea gardens, lush green forests and the mighty Brahmaputra river .During festivals, girls wear these colorful head gears and dance to the tunes of traditional Assamese folk music.

***.A more simple bamboo Japi is normally worn by the farmer while cultivating in the field protecting oneself from the sun and rain.

  1. So I am curious, in the dance what does the hat symbolize?
If farmers wear the hat/a simpler version – is that what it symbolizes
    to them in the dance?
